Renewable energy 10 times cheaper than 'business as usual' PDF Print E-mail
Amsterdam, 6th July 2007 — Investing in a renewable electricity future will save 10 times the fuel costs of a 'business as usual' fossil-fuelled scenario, saving $180 billion USD annually and cut CO2 emissions in half by 2030, according to a joint report by Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) released today.

Here’s a scary thought: the average Brit gets through over 3 tonnes of electrical equipment in a lifetime. And what happens to it when we either don’t want it anymore, or it’s kaput? It seems that more often than not we send it to landfill. At the last count we were dumping over 1 million tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) waste in landfill every year.

Storage technology comes to wind farms PDF Print E-mail
A new way of storing electricity is being tested on a commercial scale at a wind farm in Donegal in Ireland. If it works, the new system will improve the efficiency, and usefulness, of wind farms by at least 40%.
